What to even say about this one! when i first met the fine people in Mr. Mustache they were driving around my neighborhood trying to convince people to go to their show the next night at Swayzes. we talked briefly and parted ways, but when i went to go look them up on the internets, kinda expecting them to be bad (like most local bands), the first thing i heard was Black Vines and i knew i’d stumbled upon something truly wonderful…
in the coming months we kept in touch and they began working on their debut album. it was recording entirely in the boys home studio in Mcdonough, then brought here to good ole Athens Geaawgia to be mixed in the legendary Studio 1093 by richard salino and patrick ferguson (known for their work with local legends Easter Island). the result is beautiful - focused, concise, and catchy like allllll hell
we’re really excited to put this piece of art out into the world, and we think there’s something here for everyone. for the band’s signature folk-pop stylings, why not peep lead single and track 2. Borrowed and Blue? or if there’s something distinctly southern burnin deep down inside you, release it to the high heavens and get down with the boys foray into full-on bluegrass jammin on track 5. Oh Chelsea! too much jangle? too much twang? then kick back and let the orchestrated beauty of piano-driven track 9. Tower sweep you awaaayyyyy ya dingus! of course, that is just before the old-time rock n roll style of track. 10 Leaving Athens pulls you back to reality just in time to do a nice little jiggg.
why am i telling you all of this? go listen fo yaself! we’ll have CD/vinyl of the album ready at freeklife.com uhm…. soon! til then, CLICK DA PICTURE!!
